Connemara Mountain Walking Festival, Leenane 28th April - 1st May 2023

Enjoy a unique combination of mountain and sea as Leenane is situated on the edge of Killary Harbour and surrounded by mountains in all directions. This May Bank Holiday will see continuation of the Connemara Mountain Walking Festival  which has become a major event on the calendar for Connemara and the region.
The Spring 2023 event will take place over the weekend of 28th April - 1st May.

A Céid míle fáilte awaits you in Leenane on the shores of the Killary Fjord for the Connemara Mountain Walking Festival over the weekend of 28th April - 1st May 2023

Our goal is the let you experience what this fabulous community has to offer while getting close to some of the best scenery, nature, history and geology along the Wild Atlantic Way. The walks we organise are designed to suit all levels of ability and let you fully immerse yourself in the wild Connemara landscape. We want you to enjoy our area as much as we do.

Explore some wonderful footage from past walks in our gallery of photos on this website.

We are fortunate to have a large pool of professional guides who not alone are highly trained mountain leaders, but are passionate about what they do to help make your experience all the more worthwhile.

While the festival is organised during the busy spring season for the farm families on whose lands we will be walking, most can still find the time to accompany us on the walks, something that can be very rewarding for all. We encourage our walkers to interact and mingle on our walks as some of the best experiences you will have on a Connemara mountain is when you share it with others.

One other very interesting thing, especially for people who are not native Irish speakers, is to get your tongue around the names of the mountains, but don't worry as a crash course will be provided before we set off!

Transport to and from the walks is included in the price as well as a team of fully qualified mountain guides (many from local mountain rescue groups). The festival is fully insured and maps, a small souvenir  and tea and scones when you finish are also included. Also not forgetting the Friday evening entertainment and of course the famous end of festival Cèilidh!

Leave No Trace Ireland

Leave No Trace is an Outdoor Ethics Education Programme designed to promote and inspire responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. As increasing numbers of people seek the beauty and exhilaration of outdoor travel and recreation, our collective mark on the environment and its natural processes increases. Litter, water pollution, disturbance of vegetation, wildlife, livestock and other people are all indicators of the need to develop a national ethic that protects both natural and cultural heritage.
